' There's nothing to lose, but a world to win... '
  but more importantly, we've made a miracle...

Hong Kong International Model United Nations 2007

    Looking back at the entry on 18 August, 2005, little would I have guessed that 2006 is my year of departure from HKIMUN for the FIRST time since 2003. However, it is even out of my imagination that I would return in 2007 as Secretary- General... probably its the fact that i just CANNOT LET GO...

    Now that I look back, it seems like I'm always here when HKIMUN is at her hardest times.

HKIMUN 2005- The very first time when  HKIMUNA passed down  the organizing responsibility to us newbies. It was a very harsh year, as experience is a crucial factor that us Gs lack. 3 out of 4 Gs were just previous Assembly Members... Anywayz..

                                                      HKIMUN 2007- Another harsh year..
         In search for venue and the lack of sponsorships..
    Without CUSP, our 2 year working partner, we are lack of capital, sponsorships, venue ( not to say accommodation). We basically had NOTHING, but hearts of gold. It was determination that drove us to go through all eight universities, doing numerous site - visits, checking out information for Lecture Theatres and hostels...  I still remember the scene when Central buddies were sitting in the common room of BU, making final decisions on whether to continue to organize HKIMUN 2007 or not. It was a heart breaking moment for me, seeing everyone so depressed. No one wanted to give in, since its so unfair to stop one year of HKIMUN due to the lack of venue for conference and accommodation. Sustainability is an issue that keeps lingering in our minds. People come and go. It'll be difficult to find such a large number of dedicated OCs to help us again...

    Money is another critical issue. As we're not a profit-making organization, most of the sponsorships and funds out there are not applicable. Our sole income came from delegates' fees. We had a huge deficit at the beginning, but all departments were very cooperative, keeping in mind that every bit they save will benefit other departments and HKIMUN as a whole.

       HKIMUN is a CONFERENCE, not a camp!!
    Right from the beginning, we've made it clear that HKIMUN 2007 has to be conference- oriented. Cross- department trainings on rules of procedures are carried out. One of the most touching moments was at LHR mid- evaluation meeting. The positive response from GLs about delegates' serious attitude towards the conference  confirmed  our efforts.  As David and Chris said, attending LHR meetings help you to recharge =)

To ALL 87 OC and ECs:

It's a pity that OCs and ECs cannot sit in during the closing ceremony, so I'll just paste the part in my speech that's addressed to you all..

' OC and EC Members, it was when I was signing the certificates yesterday that I realized how soon HKIMUN 2007 will end. We have walked a long way togheter, treading new ground, facing unprecedented challenges, going through many obstacles that have far reaching effect to the conference. I have to say it is really a miracle that we are able to make HKIMUN 2007 happen. There are moments when we have thought of giving up, not because of internal problems, but mainly due to external constraints. However, it is passion that drove us on. Collective memories such as inter- department workshops and gatherings, receiving some 50 + emails per day, working till late at night with the companion of each other, striving hard to make HKIMUN 2007 a success... All these are worth reminiscing and this motivated the whole OC team to push on. Moreover, it is the same nostalgic memories that we all had together that made us come back year after year to help out, to continue our dream o fcarrying out MUN moment in Hong Kong, to sustain HKIMUN and bring back what we treasured to next year's delegates. '

Guilty Pleasure...

Amid looming A- Levels, I still managed to de-stress by

watching ´cÅ]¦b¨Ãä. As always, the story portrays the unfailing love between an attractive 'devilish' guy falling in love with a sweet, 'angelic' beauty. The same old tale performs its magic. It¡¦s just simply ADDICTIVE¡K

Yet I recall what Mrs. Law told us when we were going through a love poem during our morning poetry groups in form 5 that in real life, it's naive to believe that with love, you are able to change your lover's character. I guess this truly depends on love, mutual understanding and compromise between couples. The change should not be of radical nature, but by accumulation of influence over a long period of time. But come to think of it, even our parents, with their unconditional love, find it difficult to correct our bad habits, I guess Mrs. Law is right after all.

 While this has yet to be justified, the fantasy lives on...

ok, enough digression¡K back to my studies¡K

Impossible¡K

     For some, it¡¦s an excuse to say something is far from easy or can¡¦t be achieved today.

     For others, it¡¦s a rallying call to strive harder, to be more visionary and innovative, acknowledging that impossible is just another obstacle on the road of life.

     And once that obstacle has been successfully negotiated, the future stretches ahead of us forever, filled with infinite possibilities.

        Perhaps that incident has wounded her too deeply. All these years of selfless sacrifice has come to a halt. She becomes hesitant, her determination wavered. The feeling of abandonment at her weakest moments by the person she most treasured has brought her to a cruel reality - she cannot rely on her most trusted anymore. The betrayal is a sign of further abandonment. Aging has further brought her anxiety and insecurity.

        The relationship continued. She carried on caring her beloved as usual, yet suspicion has stealthily encroached between them. She would fire accusations of false intentions to her beloved, often causing her beloved to be torn between her and responsibilities that signify nothing. Again and again, her beloved has failed her in keeping even the most minor promises. She sees it as a replication of abandonment.

          Her beloved, guilt ridden of the damages caused in their relationship is engulfed in despair and frustration. She cringes at the very mention of the incident, her conscience slashing her ruthlessly. She has been warned by her elders to handle the problem and her emotions with care, or else it would be a burden too heavy to bear. Her beloved understands that what¡¦s done is done. Time cannot change its course. She secretly vows to do anything in order to amend the relationship¡K

           Actually all she wanted is to be embraced once again by her beloved and to spend more time together. She also wishes that her beloved can learn to manage her life more properly.

           As simple as that.

TO all my HKIMUN 05 buds¡K

     3 more weeks and everything is gonna be over. It is going to be the last year for many of us. Our paths may never cross again, who knows? But all I know is that I cherish EVERY MOMENT with you guys, having meetings that last from day till late at night¡K

Organizing such a huge activity is tiring yet meaningful. Strangely, it is like a summon, calling out to all of us, bringing us back together every summer. Memories are sweet and more are bound to come.

The first workshop has been successfully held (* hm.. I would call it successful, but there is room for further improvement =P)

 Many thanks and a hundred kisses to all OC members¡K

~ Assembly department for their wonderful topic summaries and sim sim;

~ Group Leaders fully performing their crucial role in facilitating the smooth running of the whole workshop;

~ Programming and Multi- media heads for their respective presentations;

~ Reporters collecting exclusive information from the delegates (* grin *)

Last but not least, HKIMUNA members¡¦ assistance and supervision;

    SG, DSGs for their efforts¡K

We have only 18 days left before our big event¡K Preparation schedule is very tight.  Add oil to all departments!! You ALL ROCK!!!!!
